Vazelon Monastery

The Vazelon Monastery in Trabzon is in a region with the unique nature of the Black Sea. The monastery, located in the Maçka district of Trabzon, was built in the 13th century and is one of the significant Byzantine structures in the region.

Hagia Sophia

This historical structure built in the 13th century carries traces of the Byzantine era to this day. The Hagia Sophia Museum has a structure like Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. The building, which carries the features of Byzantine architecture with its domes and arches, has been transformed into a mosque and a museum over time. The frescoes and mosaics inside display the finest examples of Byzantine art.

Atatürk Mansion

Trabzon Atatürk Mansion is one of Turkey’s leading historical buildings. The mansion is located in the Soğuksu district of Trabzon, by the sea, and is famous for its magnificent sea views.

Sümela Monastery

Although the exact construction date of the monastery is unknown, it is estimated to have been built in the fourth century. The monastery was built as a symbol of Christianity spreading in the region during that period. The name of the monastery comes from the Greek word “Panagia,” which means “Virgin Mary.”
